Old World vs. New World Class

Thursday, September 16, 2010 — 6:30 pm to 8pm

A great debate raging in the wine world today is over the differences between wine coming from the Old World (Europe) wines that speak of the earth and a sense of place; versus fruit-driven, big and bold wine styles from the New World (The Americas and Down Under). In recent years the influence of "flying winemakers" like Michel Rolland and American wine writers like Robert M. Parker Jr. has prompted more and more Old World wine makers to produce wines in a New World style; while increasing sophistication and maturity has inspired growing numbers of New World producers to emulate Old World models. The old definitions are quickly breaking down creating an international wine scene brimming with unique & eclectic wines for us to imbibe--a truly win-win scenario for us all. Come join us in a fascinating comparison tasting, where you can decide which style suits you best!

*Cancellation with full refund is accepted up to 48 hours prior to event date. No refunds are given for cancellations after this point.

Get Your Island On - Rum Tasting Class

Tuesday, September 28, 2010 — 6:30 pm to 8pm

Rum may have gotten a bad rap from its association with pirates, brigands, and sorority girls, but it has a storied past that merits a second chance. This versatile liquor can be made from either sugarcane or molasses, and rum distilleries crop up all over the world, from Barbados to the Berkshires. Just the word "rum" conjures images of warm sun, cool breezes, steel drums and a mellow buzz. Whether it’s pure and straight from the still or aged in oak for rich, whiskey-like flavors, this tropical treat will have you singing, “Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum.”

Whiskey Around the World Class

Thursday, October 21, 2010 — 6:30 pm to 8pm

We have the Scots and Irish to thank for giving us the gift of whisk(e)y, but other cultures around the world--from the Americas to Asia to Eastern Europe--are doing a pretty great job of making this magical spirit as well. This class is designed to heighten sensory development for various aromas, tastes and textures of traditional whiskeys, bourbons and ryes. We will discuss what makes whiskey different from other spirits, the difference between the major categories, the role of the barrel and grain selection as well as the aging, and when to spell it "whisky."

*Cancellation with full refund is accepted up to 48 hours prior to event date. No refunds are given for cancellations after this point.
