Joly is known for his attention to the land, and his wines have a unique expression of terroir. This wine opens with aromas of pear, quince, toasted nuts, and orange rind. On the palate, it is rich, nutty, and full-bodied, with balancing acidity leading to a complex and lasting finish. Serve with firm sheep milk cheese, roasted turkey, almond-crusted baked fish.

Region: Loire Valley, France

Explosive Savennieres! Review by Sarah - CWV Team Member

Nicolas Joly is known equally for his hard core beliefs in biodynamic winemaking and for his bottling of Coulee de Serrant, one of the most sought after, ethereal white wines being made today. Les Vieux Clos is his entry level Savennieres. This complex Chenin Blanc definitely benefits from from aeration, so I recommend decanting anywhere from 2 hours to a full 24 hours. I know, I know! 24 hour decanting sounds crazy but this wine really shows best after it's been open for some time. Notes of roasted hazelnuts, apricot, quince and wet rocks lead to a rich palate but with bracing acidity. Absolute bliss!
